Thank you, Cinderella Perey Benavides, for helping my family travel through the last couple of weeks of my father's life. And to those who may be facing the impending passage of a loved one, I encourage you to reach out to Cinderella, who earns her living as an end-of-life doula with over 25 years of nursing experience in this area. Cinderella, thank you for traveling with me from California to my parents' home in Phoenix, and for immediately helping my mum tend to my dad's needs. By the time you arrived, my Dad could not get out of bed any more. Since he could no longer cooperate in such things as turning in bed, my mum was having a hard time with daily activities such as nutrition and bathing. Within moments of arriving, you were able to apply your expertise in a tender and caring way, helping my dad be comfortable, and bringing my mum significant relief from the challenges dad's situation presented. Once the immediate issues at hand were dealt with, you then researched in-home hospice companies, and interviewed several of them. The company you ultimately recommended, (Sage Hospice) turned out to be absolutely wonderful, providing complete in-home care for my dad, and really for the whole family. Thank you also for helping us review and understand the notion of hospice care versus medical care, and for helping my mum implement my dad's wishes, both pre- and post- end of life. It was such a relief to have my family in your safe, caring, competent hands. There are many worries surrounding the nearing end of a loved one's life, but with your help, we were able to focus on the most important things, the human things, the loving things, knowing that all practical matters were either in your hands or in the hands of the hospice company you helped us select. Many of us know Cinderella socially, having attended some of her wonderful salons, or having met her at other community events. This note is an endorsement of her life's work, all the preparation that has brought her to this point, the point at which she is a wonderful care giver for those going through this end-of-life process.
